About A.C. Efverman:
I am a Swedish crime fiction author – I grew up in Stockholm and I am a graduate of Stockholm School of Arts – I am also an artist and I paint with oils and acrylics.
I moved to the warmer shores of Australia when I was in my early twenties; but I still have Nordic Noir flowing through my veins and I write dark crime fiction novels set in my adopted home town Sydney. Most of my characters are Australian, with some Scandinavian exceptions.
My books are in a series that is available in both Swedish and English world wide. Series: DS Morgan Callaghan / Kommissarie Morgan Callaghan.
My novel ‘Skuggspel’ was listed as #1 Best Seller in Swedish Language Fiction on Amazon.com in November 2015.
My novel ‘GAME’ – in English – has received some great reviews, and I am currently translating the second novel in my series from Swedish to English.
What inspires you to write?
I traveled around the world by myself for many years and in one horrific moment I had a gun pointed at my head – I write from the knowledge of what it feels like to be a victim of crime, as well as drawing from my extensive imagination, plus many many hours’ research of real life murderers and what makes them tick.
My main inspiration is Sydney though: it is the most beautiful city on the planet in my eyes. My books have been described as, among other things, being a love declaration to the city of Sydney.
Tell us about your writing process.
I do most of the visualization of the stories for my books in the back of my mind when I do other things and when I sit down to write, most of the material is already formed in my mind. I make a lot of notes of my ideas – and my desk is covered by these notes… it might look messy to an outsider, but I can assure you that it’s a highly organised mess!
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I say my characters’ words out loud to see if they sound authentic. I have lived with my main characters for a long time now and I think I know them pretty well.
What advice would you give other writers?
Writing comes from both within and from the external world we live in I believe – we have all seen and experienced many things and it is all stored inside of us. It is the creative process of bringing all information together into a story that brings out what’s inside of you – and for me, that is the most important part of writing.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
My first crime fiction novel was published in Sweden by a publisher and it gave me the push to keep writing. I have self-published my last three novels and it is a very different journey: in that I now have to do everything myself, but it also gives me a lot of freedom in what I do. Being a writer these days you don’t just have to be good at writing – you also have to know about graphic design, document formatting and marketing; just to mention a few things…
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I hope that traditional paper books survive: I love book shops and I have a well stocked, large book case in my home that is the center and heart and soul of my living space.
What genres do you write?: Crime, Fiction, Mystery, Suspense, Thriller
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print
