How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
There are extremes when it comes to public-speaking perception: people are too terrified and will do what they can to avoid it, or people believe they don’t need help with it. In both cases, they’re wrong. We’re surrounded my public speaking opportunities so avoiding it isn’t an option. Those who think they don’t need help are the ones who really need it the most. There’s a fine line between decent and incredible. Refining and honing these skills isn’t hard, but self-awareness to help make the leap is important–and greater success is waiting for you.
What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Relate to the audience, relate to the audience, relate to the audience. The book may be your baby, but the message is purely for the readers.
What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
My career was at a stand still. After being told for 18 years on my performance appraisals that I couldn’t communicate, I needed to take hold of my own career. What i found out was that my issues weren’t communication–it was confidence!
About the Author:
Tom Dowd is a prize-winning speaker, award-winning author, and trainer—all spurred by his need to be more than a painfully shy and introverted individual on a rollercoaster ride of success.
With over 24 years of experience in the financial industry in management and leadership roles at the same organization and a plethora of inconsistency on this professional journey, Tom received the call nobody wanted: “We’re downsizing.” After unexpectedly losing his full-time job, Tom landed in a better place in just 59 days using methods from his coaching and training. He is now a VP at one of the larger financial institutions in North America. In 2011, he started his own side business “Thomas Dowd Professional Development & Coaching” where he continues to use the lessons learned on his climb up the corporate ladder to help people creatively find ways to differentiate themselves. Tom’s most recent book ‘Displacement Day” was published in March.
