Oliver wants to be a time traveller. He hasn’t told his scary wife that the contraption in their garage is supposed to be a time machine. He falls into it accidentally, whilst trying to avoid her.
The machine wasn’t quite ready, so it sends him to another universe, before destroying itself.
He appears on a very Earth-like planet. The artificial Sun is shining and the birds are singing (mostly Motown).
He finds other humans there, including a much nicer version of his wife. They live in a very old, basic, rural settlement.
Together, they use their skills and limited resources to make the best of their situation and unravel the mysteries of their surroundings.
Characters include an Elvis-like robot, an overweight ex-racehorse, plus a Neanderthal who knows a lot more than he’s letting on.
‘Forgotten Erf by Layton Bushel is a delightful journey into the unexpected’ – Readers’ Favorite.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Other people I know were writing books, so I thought I'd give it a go, as I'm retired now.
I often have ideas that others haven't thought of, so this was my chance to put that ability to good use.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
The main character (Oliver) is a bit like myself, as I'm technically-minded and inclined to invent daft things occasionally.
The character called Silas has a strong English West Country accent. His name came from a document displayed in a very old village church in Somerset, where I used to live.
The Elvis-like robot was inspired by the 'Ask Elvis' feature from the late Steve Wright's brilliant radio show from some years ago, which always made me laugh.
