All Curt wants is a simple, quiet life, and he relishes the solitude of his job as caretaker of a backcountry ski hut. His peaceful world is shattered by the reappearance of his identical twin brother, fresh out of prison, desperate and more dangerous than ever. Conrad has a plan and that plan may destroy Curt’s future. Not only is Curt’s life at stake, but also the lives of a group of women enjoying a skiing getaway.
Jessie and friends from her Colorado Adventure Women group anticipate a fun-filled weekend of skiing and relaxing in a remote mountain hut. They would never guess that a life-and-death situation is simmering just a few hundred yards away in the caretaker’s cabin.
Helpless to act, Curt must try to convince his brother to find a different path. But the mistakes of a lifetime cannot be undone in a weekend.

How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
My prior writing experience was in co-authoring outdoor recreational guidebooks and writing technical software articles, so fiction is quite different! Ah, but you’re asking about differences among fiction genres. Truthfully, I don’t think a great deal about genre when I’m writing. One of my Beta readers even suggested that DUPLICITY should be marketed as women’s fiction, emphasizing the romantic aspects of part of the story. I think it encompasses aspects of psychological thriller, suspense, and action/adventure genres as well.
What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Write for your own pleasure. If you love what you’ve written and enjoyed the process of writing, that will come across to your readers.
Turn off the TV and read instead. Put down your phone and observe the people around you. Interact with the world. Then write and write and write some more.
What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
My books are inspired by the outdoor adventures I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying over the years. DUPLICITY is set at a backcountry ski hut high in the mountains of Colorado. Unlike my actual experiences with delightful days of skiing with friends, the events in DUPLICITY could rightfully be described as “the hut trip from hell.” I wanted to bring back the character Jessica (Jessie) from my first novel, FACES, and have her faceblindness (prosopagnosia) play a part in the story, but in a very different way than in the first book.
About the Author:
Diane Winger is a self-described “retired software geek” who loves hiking, rock climbing, and cross-country skiing when she isn’t glued in front of her computer playing around with website designs, watching cat videos, and writing. She has prosopagnosia, so be sure to introduce yourself each time you meet her.
She and her husband, Charlie, are co-authors of several guidebooks on outdoor recreation. They now live in western Colorado, but Diane was born and raised in Denver.
