What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
It all started with a random thought around Christmas time. With all the Christmas spirit that tends to permeate December, I wondered what it would feel like to have a bad experience happen that soured the holiday for years to come, and that became the backstory to my main character. Oddly enough, it became a more and more minor point as the story progressed until it was nothing more than a small tidbit, but it was the driving force behind sitting down and writing Deserted.
Scenery in my book was also inspired by a video game I was playing quite a bit at the time.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
All of my characters are inspired by personal events that have occurred in my life. Each character has certain personality quirks or behaves in certain ways because of things I have seen or have been exposed to.
Book Sample
A lone lantern sat on the muddy ground at the fork in the road. Its frame was smashed yet it still whispered out a faint, flickering light in its dying breath. Instead of turning right as I had before, I decided to continue down the path straight ahead; it was my only chance left of escape. I didn’t know this path so I traced the wall with my fingers as I rushed forward. I jumped at every slight bump on my fingers, however, and found myself letting loose a small shriek every time. My nerves were shot and my hands trembled violently; I was definitely not prepared for this.
