How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
Writing children’s non-fiction has a real goal behind it. I am aiming to educate children about natural resources such as our coral reefs, our fisheries and reef fish, and endangered species like the Hawaiian Monk Seal or Green Sea Turtle. I also write fiction, but I have the same goal, telling a story that has some sort of moral behind it, like protecting marine resources. When you write non-fiction, though, you must be certain to check your facts and stay focused on the goal of your writing.
What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Write about what you love, you must have passion about what you are writing about! I love the ocean, it takes care of us by providing food and recreational opportunities. I write about the importance of conserving something that gives so much to us, so that others can appreciate it and help protect it.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
As a former teacher and marine biologist, I am concerned about the state of the environment. My goal with all of my books is to stress the importance of conserving our natural resources. In my Kindle series (Science and Nature for Young Readers) I offer simple steps that children and adults can take to help protect our marine resources.
