I, Connor, thought I was the average sarcastic teenager, living a normal life like everyone else with a crazy, annoying family. Wrong. I recently discovered that I have certain abilities. Abilities that link me to others like me, and others, unlike me, who want to cause me harm.
I found out this world is not what I thought, as well as the strange creatures in it, and that frightens me. I had to grow up fast and find the strength to defend myself from those beings who don’t want me here or who will take my strengths by any means necessary.
Throughout this craziness, I met a wonderful guy named Tony, who has abilities too. With him and several others like us we discover who we are and how we came to be.
Then there is Ronin, a being who is young, smart, and cunning. He is set on taking his revenge out on me yet I have no idea why.
Targeted Age Group:
Teen, Young Adult, Adult
I feel it is different because it will appeal to a broad spectrum of readers since it deals with teenagers in several diverse ethnicities. They are Black, Spanish, Asian, Caucasian and multiracial teens who have normal everyday life struggles which a lot of teens have today. Also, at times it is sarcastic, funny, sad, or just plain emotional on how the teenagers chose to deal with their new responsibilities. There is some romance, but not so much in the normal sense. It’s not a picture-book storyline with an overworked ending where everyone rides off into the sunset to live happily ever after.
What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
I suggest staying organized when promoting, don’t expect a lot so soon, quickly grow thick skin when dealing with a bad review and keep writing if that is really what you want to do.
Author Bio:
I was born in New York and lived there with my family until I was eight when we moved to Mississippi. Ten years later, I went to college at Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana for about two years then moved to Massachusetts for life experience. Eventually, I moved back to New York where I became a registered nurse. After working so many years in New York as a nurse, I started doing travel nursing and loved it. I decided to stop traveling while in Colorado to stay close by family. Shortly after, I met my wonderful husband and have been here ever since. Even as a child, I have always had a love for science fiction, dabbled in writing throughout the years, and decided it was time to let my true self free. I took some time off from work to pursue a career in writing and recently published my first book called Connor. I plan on following up with a series of books under the Connor name and my goal is to be finished with the second book by the middle of 2014.
As a child growing up there weren’t any teen heroes that I could relate to because there wasn’t anyone out there that looked like me. I don’t think it should be mostly one sided. When you’re young, your creative fantasies should seem limitless and there is nothing more a child desires than wanting to feel special or different. I loved science fiction when I was young but there should have been more of a variety for child like me because I felt left out.
