What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I dreamed about the story for MONTHS. Then, in November 2011, I participated in NaNoWriMo. Twenty-nine days later, I had Breathless completed!
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Carly was easy – there’s so much of me in her. However, she’s a lawyer and I’m the math nerd in the law firm. Ryan is much like my husband, even if he’s not famous. We did get a little local attention when he proposed via billboard, though!

As Carly reads to Sam and Sophie of the sun and the rain, I can’t help thinking about all of the days the kids in this ward have had to sit inside. In the story, it was too wet and cold to play outside, but for Sam and Sophie, it’s just the way life is for them. I make a mental note to return one day as Ryan Spalding the movie star, and not just Ryan Andrews the man falling for Carly. Her voice is light and sweet as she reads to the kids. For the second time tonight, I think that I’ve never seen anyone more beautiful than her. Maybe these kids don’t need action heroes, just ordinary heroes like Carly.

She’s quiet, too quiet. The silence is finally broken when I hear her wheeze. She reaches into the pocket of her jeans without taking her eyes off of me, pulls out her inhaler and takes two puffs, holding her breath to allow the medicine to work. I give her a lopsided grin. As beautiful as she is, that inhaler makes her the sexiest geek I’ve ever met.
