This is a story about a lovable little bat named Brady who has a peculiar fear of the dark. This makes sleeping in a dark cave and coming out at night to play quite a challenge. In this book you will learn how Brady faces this fear and solves this problem with the help of some special glowing friends. The book is written with clever rhymes and the characters come to life with original and detailed illustrations. Brady Needs a Nightlight is the first book in a series entitled ‘Fundamentales’, a series of books meant to relate to the interpersonal challenges that children face and teach lessons through imaginative and relatable stories.
Targeted Age Group:
3-7
Although many children’s books are written in rhyme and are based on animal characters, I believe that the rhymes in these books are clever, easy to read, and really tell an important and entertaining story. I believe that telling a story about a bat who is afraid of the dark is a unique twist to a bedtime story. One of the most fantastic parts of this book are the illustrations done by my friend and professional art director Gregory Jones. His depictions of my imagined characters are as if he were in my head when I created them. His attention to detail is amazing and his ability to make a story about a bat who is afraid of the dark a lovable and colorful one is truly a testimony to his artistic abilities.
What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Pursue your dreams of writing no matter how long it takes. Do your research on how to better your chances of getting published and try to make your work stand out. Never let anyone tell you that you can’t do it or that you’ll just get lost in the crowd. I wrote many of these stories, including Brady Needs a Nightlight between the hours of 11pm-3am which means that as a writer, you must follow your passion and creativity even if you find yourself lost in your stories until the early morning hours. Most of all though, have fun. I enjoy being a Pediatrician but writing, editing, and watching my stories come to life is just as rewarding.
Author Bio:
My name is Brian Barlics, I am 35 years old, and I currently live in Gilroy California. I am married and have three children. I am a very busy Pediatrician with a strong love for children. I enjoy teaching my students from Stanford University but I also enjoy teaching parents and my patients about health and illnesses. When I am not playing doctor I enjoy traveling with family, golf, running, and of course writing children’s books. I have 12 completed books with the first published this month. I am excited to continue my work as a Pediatrician but also I am dedicated to this new journey as an author. I would be honored if you would consider my book Brady Needs a Nightlight for review.
Some of the characters in my stories I had actually created when I was in elementary school. It was only recently that I finally decided to create stories around these characters. As a Pediatrician, husband, and father, I have not only a strong love for children but do everything I can to ensure that all children are physically and emotionally healthy. I believe in the enrichment of their minds and endless imaginations. I feel that this story, and the others to come, are fun, creative, vibrant, and achieve these goals.
