A spirit intrusion sets the author on a transformational journey from which there is no return. This is a true story of how Annabel Elizabeth Henley, who lived in the sixteenth century, reaches through time to relay a message of grave danger to her reincarnated lover. In so doing, Sheila is drawn into his circle of cultic mysticism. This journey leads to the realization of unbounded possibilities of the vast spiritual world and the conclusion that all of us are connected with spirit.
All beings, visions and scenes borne of spirit or related to regressions are reported precisely as they occurred. Although the remainder of the characters are based in reality, names, settings, descriptive detail, and circumstances have been modified; thus, any resemblance to living persons is purely coincidental.
In her first book, Beyond the Veil: A Personal Story of Spiritual Connection, Sheila Carnegie has captured a series of life-changing spiritual experiences in an intriguing way. Although this is a true account, it reads like a well-written, thought-provoking novel. With twists and turns in the plot, intriguing locations, and unusual characters that capture your attention, it will keep you engaged to the very last page. Beyond the Veil made for a great Sunday afternoon read.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
A reoccurring ‘vision’ and the introduction of new people into my life inspired me to write the story. As strange as it may seem, it was the voice of Annabel, a woman who lived in England in the 16th century that insisted the story must be told.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
The characters came to me, along with the story. There are characters who lived in the past as well as those who live in the present. With reference to the latter, I changed details and settings so characters would not be identifiable or, if so, coincidentally so.

“Are you comfortable? Ready to proceed?” the regression therapist asks.
“Yes, I’m ready as I’ll ever be.”
She clicks on the tape recorder.
Thus we begin our venture into the unknown.
When I am apparently regressed, she begins with the vision. “Do you see the man and the woman on horseback?”
“Yes, very clearly. We ride along the river. In front of me rides he. Bareback. Tall and straight rides he. His long black curling hair flows over his shoulders, bounces. Sometimes when widens the path rides he by my side. His eyes are dark, smiling. His teeth gleam white in moonlight.”
“Who is this man who rides ahead of you?”
“He loves me. He loves me, as do I he.”
“What is he wearing?”
“It is night, the moon is clear. Light do stream through the trees, through the leaves. Moonbeams do dance patterns on his back as he moves. A brown leather coat wears he…”
She hesitates as though she wants to be certain before she continues… “a waistcoat with short tails… slit… and narrow-legged pants very much like breeches… with boots to the knees… his clothes are rather equestrian.”
“Do you know the time period? The year?”
“1534. 1535? No, tonight it is 1534.”
“What is your name?”
“Annabel Hen… Henley. Elizabeth Henley? No. Annabel
Elizabeth Henley. Annabel is the name I use on this day.”
“Where are you? What country?”
“The Lakes district.” She pauses. “The Dales. Through the woods move we north. A river winds… on our left. Light glimmers on the water. To the right are the woods.”
The Yorkshire Dales, England, 1534
Tall on the black steed before her he rode
Tall and straight
Striking north
through ghostly woodlands
woodlands and dales
That night in 1534.
Tall and straight he rode.
Shoulders squared in the moonlight
calfskin-clad shoulders
patterned with lacy leaf shadows
constantly shifting before her
There on the path by the river
snaking silver in moonlight
That night.
His coal black curls tumbling in moonlight
flowing and dancing,
glimmering in moonlight, fireflies in the night
floating free in the breeze…
finally free.
