What inspires you to write?
Life inspires me to write. Mine has been full of triumphs and challenges, tears of joy and of grief. My loves, losses, experiences, and mistakes are all stories waiting to be written.
Tell us about your writing process.
My first book, Love In War, was written over nine months. I knew the story and went with it. Now that I am working on the second book in the series, I am utilizing lessons learned and have created an outline. I highlight key characters, scenarios, and other important information I want to be sure to include. I also create character playlists of songs that get me into my character’s head.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I become my character when I am writing. I feel what she feels, I think what she thinks.
What advice would you give other writers?
My first and best piece of advice is to never give up. It took me years to finally begin and complete a novel. Life always took priority and I put my dream on the back burner for a long time. Make time for yourself and for your writing!
My second piece of advice is to read and re-read your book! I found so many mistakes within mine the first time I actually read it cover to cover. I thought I knew what was in there (I wrote it, after all), but I had missed so many silly mess-ups that it’s not even funny!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I self-published via Amazon KDP Select because it seemed to be the best avenue for me. Take the time to do your research before self-publishing and don’t rush into something just because you are eager to get it done.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think that self-publishing has really transformed the world of books. So many authors who may have never stood a chance with traditional publishers have been able to get their work and their names out there.
What genres do you write?: Romance, Self-Help
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print
