About Maya Tyler:
Maya Tyler is a romance author, blogger, wife, and mother. She has a degree in Commerce and her day job is in Finance. Over the past few years, she decided to unleash her creative streak and get serious about writing. So far, she has published a short story “Just for Tonight” in an anthology titled With Love from Val and Tyne, and has written a few books. Writing mostly paranormal romances, all of her books have a common theme–happily ever after. Dream Hunter is her debut novella. When she’s not writing, you can find her playing with Lego and watching superhero movies with her husband and sons.
What inspires you to write?
I just have so many ideas and a very overactive imagination. Writing provides me with a creative outlet and it’s a great stress reliever too! I also have some crazy dreams. My first published book Dream Hunter was based on a dream I had.
Tell us about your writing process.
I’ve tried many methods and my process has changed over the years. Different ways work for different people too. My last book was written without an outline or any kind of planning. I just sat down every chance I had and wrote. When the ideas are flowing you can’t stop or you may lose your train of thought.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
You have to listen to your characters. Mine have minds of their own… and most of them are dreadfully stubborn!
What advice would you give other writers?
Be creative and enjoy yourself. It is the hope and dream of all aspiring writers to be published, but the most important thing is to have fun.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
A few years ago, I joined an online writing group. They helped me develop my first published book Dream Hunter and also advised me where to submit it for publishing. I never considered self-publishing.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think the trend is definitely moving toward eBooks. (I hope) books will always be published because I love to read, but the way people read is different now. I have an eReader, an iPad, and an iPhone and I haven’t read a paper book in months!
