About Ginnie Carmichael:
Ginnie is French-Canadian author who decided to use her second language to write. After getting her Interior Design degree, she decided to escape life with her boyfriend and start travelling. She is in Costa Rica right now, enjoying the beach and the sun. Another winter in Canada was too much for the lovebirds!
Ginnie write in her spare time, between a bike ride into town and a hike in the jungle. She loves a good cup of tea and watching her favorite TV shows. She can’t go anywhere without her own ebook reader and loves to get lost in a good story. That’s why she decided to create her own.
What inspires you to write?
Instead of writing from home, I am actually traveling around the world. Everything I see inspires me. Whether I’m spending the day on the beach or cuddling at home with my boyfriend. I love writing and get my stories from far inside my head. I know everything is in there already; it just needs to come out. Being in a different environment every couple of months also helps a lot. I’m never bored and I’m actually very motivated to work.
Tell us about your writing process.
I’m an outliner. I start by putting some ideas down in the journal my best friend gave me before I left to travel. When I know the main characters and what the general plot is going to be, then I write what is going to happen in every chapter. I started doing that because otherwise, I would just end up looking at my computer, not knowing what was going to happen next. It’s much easier for me to write when I know where I am going and how much time I should spend on every detail.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I am my characters. Since I write from a first person point of view, I put myself in the head of the character. I forget who I am and give all the room in my brain to them.
What advice would you give other writers?
Keep writing. I haven’t been writing for very long, but I know that with every new sentence I write, I get better. I just have to keep trying and not give up. That’s how successful people become successful.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I decided to self-publish. My boyfriend was already doing it and making a lot of money in the way. I like to have the control over my book and I know I can make it as an author without having a publisher. I don’t need anybody to believe in me. I already believe in myself 🙂
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Authors don’t always have a business mind. Those who do can do very well in self-publishing, but there are still a lot of authors who prefer concentrating on their writing instead of marketing their books. That’s why traditional publishing is there and it’s probably going to stay.
