About Paul Rouse:
Hi, my name is Paul Rouse! Since the seventh grade, I have been entranced with writing and reading. I love to create unique stories, settings, and characters, as well as read about them! To me, a well-developed plot and characters are truly what define a book's bearing. My first published work, Stugo the Novel, comes out April 7th!
What inspires you to write?
The two main things that inspire me to write are both personal experiences and the places I visit. For example, there is a mountain range in Stugo the Novel called the Blue Mont Mountains. I designed that range based on the Blue Ridge Mountains. I also find reading to be very therapeutic for me. Therefore, any time I need to process something, I'll tend to write in a journal containing various ideas I've had for future novels/stories.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
My favorite authors have to be Leigh Bardugo and Erik Larson. I'm a major fan of Bardugo's Shadow and Bone series, which has been the top fantasy series I have ever read! I also love Larson's historical novels because I am a major history buff.
Tell us about your writing process.
My writing process begins by jotting down ideas and/or themes for the story I want to bring to the world in a journal I have. After I feel I have a basis for what I'm attempting to accomplish, then I'll begin to produce a manuscript in Microsoft Word. I rarely create character sketches or any sketches for that matter. I've always had no trouble visualizing what I'm trying to write, so I have not needed sketches.
What advice would you give other writers?
To other writers, I would stress to write in your own time and allow yourself to take the time to process the ideas you are trying to flesh out in your work. I find keeping a journal of your ideas helps with this.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I decided to publish my first published work, Stugo the Novel, through Amazon's KDP Select Program because I believe this program will allow me to still maintain control of my novel, and utilize the perks of the KDP program.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I feel that as more and more self-publishing software became available and affordable, we will see authors move to publish there works with these companies, so they can maintain control of their novels.
What genres do you write?: Dystopian, Fiction, Fantasy, Mental Health
