If you are struggling to:
– lose weight

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I believe that the reason many of us fail to lose weight, get fit or achieve the goals we would like isn’t because we choose the wrong diet, lack time or ability; it’s because we lack the self discipline to stick to our plans and do the necessary. I came to this conclusion myself when I realised I was failing to achieve many of my goals regarding writing, publishing my books, teaching my children to read, persevere without wine and chocolate through lent, etc. None of these things took a great deal of effort on my part but they did require me to turn up each and every day to do my bit. Once I started putting a little extra muscle on my Inner Imp Self-Discipline, my success results started improving hugely. My success has inspired me to pass this on to readers.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
The Inner Imps are the by-product of a personal project of mine to teach my children the essential, everyday life skills they would need to grow into effective, responsible adults.
One of the things I quickly realised was that I was the lodestar and to teach my kids effectively it was vital for me to actively do the deed myself. I had to:
• exercise self discipline;
• take responsibility for my own life;
• effectively manage my emotions;
• plan and achieve my own goals, etc.
In a rare, and somewhat brief, moment of personal honesty I realised that I wasn’t doing many of these things particularly well. Time and convenience had made my decision-making about which actions or behaviours were practical, right or simply made moral or ethical sense, selective and somewhat dependent on my mood.
I discovered the main reason behind this selectivity was my inner self-talk. I had all these voices in my head – no need for concern, in my case it isn’t a medical condition (I think)! – and these voices were extremely compelling. Additionally, and all too often, battles between these voices raged in my head.
These voices resembled a pack of mischievous urchins and they ran rampant. I began to think of these voices as my Inner Imps and named each with an easily identifiable nom de guerre such as Fear, Doubt, Courage and Self Discipline. Over time I identified more and more of the habits and idiosyncrasies that characterised them and, as I did this, I began to truly appreciate the power these Inner Imps exercised over my life. They developed into the Inner Imp characters you will meet in Master Self-Discipline and the other books in my Inner Imp Thinking Series.
The more I consciously connected with these individual voices (characters), the easier it became for me to control them.
In a short period of time I began to achieve more and more success with reaching my goals and it was at this point I began to think again…
Surely, if becoming conscious of, listening to, developing characters for and working on mastering my Inner Imps has improved my life so dramatically, others could benefit from it too. That thought led to the Inner Self Discipline Imp character and the many other Imps you will meet through the series of books.
