About Julia McBryant:
Hi, y'all! I live in the prettiest city in the world and love to write books with a ton of hot sex. No, seriously. My books never cut to blowing curtains. I write all over the place regarding tropes, but if you've read my work, it's probably from my daddy kink. I have three dogs; I post too many selfies on Insta; I like black eye makeup and my favorite leather colors.
What inspires you to write?
I write because I have to. People just … appear. Then their stories come to me, and I write them down. I rarely know what'll happen when I put them on the page together, and it's fun to find out.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
Fitzgerald, Faulkner, Flannery O'Connor, Jack Kerouac, Bret Easton Ellis … I have to read great prose to write lyrical prose, so I don't have a lot of time to read anything else.
Tell us about your writing process.
I know where my story will end up, but I never know how it's going to get there. I find out about my characters as I write them: what they like and dislike, their pasts, etc. I record it all as I go along.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Out loud? No.
In my head? Hell yes. I get mad at them when they start doing things that are way off base from what I planned. But they generally get their way.
What advice would you give other writers?
Keep. Writing. Write and write and write. Then read it out loud. Your ear will know if it's good before your eyes do. My writing got so much better when I started reading aloud.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I was writing very explicit fanfic, and it was getting really popular. I stopped and thought, "Why am I not getting paid for this?"
So I started publishing. I thought all writing was super sexually explicit, so mine is.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think it'll go to a mostly digital, subscription-based environment, much like kindle unlimited.
What genres do you write?: m/m, daddy kink, contemporary, new adult, f/f
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print
