About Chris Cullen:
Chris Cullen is the author of I Get To: Change Your Words Change Your Life, a book that helps people reframe challenges and lead themselves better. A former Division 1 and minor league baseball player, and 2x Ironman finisher, Chris spent a decade in sales and leadership before launching Win Within, a company dedicated to mindset training for athletes, high achievers, and corporate teams. He works with Fortune 100 companies and Division 1 programs including Genentech, Jersey Mike's and the Univ. of Georgia. Through writing, coaching, and speaking Chris is on a mission to show people that better thoughts lead to better outcomes.
What inspires you to write?
The way it makes me feel. It's similar to the feeling you sit in after purging your closet. I find writing evokes creativity, empathy, and imagination.

Yung Pueblo. Mel Robbins. Malcolm Gladwell.
Tell us about your writing process.
If it's stirring in my head it moves to paper. Whether that's sticky notes, journaling, or typing, words have to hit the paper in some way to clear my mind. From there it becomes labeling, highlighting, and organizing main themes. My latest book started as over 300 sticky notes on my living room wall and moved it's way into chapters.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Having a relationship with your characters is so important for helping your readers feel connected.
What advice would you give other writers?
Just write. On the days you feel blocked or stuck, just write one truth for that day. The more consistent you are in your practice, the easier the good days flow.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
Self-published. I don't have the funds to pay into major marketing or publishing :).
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think it's an interesting time with ai. What's most scary is thinking we're emotionally connected to what ai is telling us. Reading and going to the movies are proven to the two of the strongest exchanges of empathy. I hope we hold tight onto the natural side of things when it comes to writing.
