When two girls fall in love during the height of the Second World War, they are soon found out by the people of their small Canadian town and quickly face a downward spiral of ill-fated events. ‘Smuggled Love’ carries the reader on a journey from the frontlines of WW2 to the Home Front where a love affair is turned ugly by those who do not approve of it.

I have a passion for Pulp Noir fiction.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
I chose my character names through research.
Book Sample
A steady rain falls outside. Beads of water leave trails down the thin panes of glass and drip down into pools which gather on the white paint of the sill. Nora looks down and sees the tires of a black sedan divide the water that has begun to pool across the pavement. The car slows and then rounds the corner and makes its way down Main Street. A couple races to get out of the wetness and into Spencer’s Department Store. The man raises a folded newspaper over his head as he holds the door open for the woman. They both disappear into the building. Distant thunder travels across the horizon and Nora thinks it sounds like planks of lumber falling onto each other over at the hardware store.
“I love this rain,” Genevieve says.
Nora turns her head to see that she is now standing near her.
“Even though it makes it so hot,” Genevieve continues. as she lifts the window open a little, “I love the feeling of thunderstorm rain,”
Nora watches as Genevieve uses the tip of her finger to trace the path of a droplet of water down the pane of glass. The droplet slows as it meanders, as if at first unsure of its path – and then hesitant in the following of it. When it reaches the bottom of the frame, it momentarily resists the inevitable, fighting to remain up high where it sits alone, but soon surrenders to the pull and allows itself to fall.
Nora visualizes Genevieve touching her skin in the same way she just has the window – using the tips of her fingers to trace invisible letters on her back.
