About Uncle Dave Howard:
I am an award winning children’s book author and illustrator. I was born with dyslexia, ADD, and autism. I was in special education classes all through school. I graduated from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh with an associate degree and then I graduated from California University of Pennsylvania with a bachelors in fine arts.
What inspires you to write?
My family mostly and my past experience. I wrote at first to escape reality. I was bullied in school and my stories was my world I could escape into. Now I write to inspire, motivate, and teach children.
Tell us about your writing process.
I start of with a silly idea and ask myself questions. Like what, who, where, why, when, and the best one what if? The best ideas come at night, usually when I’m asleep. I’ll wake up and quickly write down what I have. My ideas are scattered at first then I have to fine tune it.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Yes and they talk back. Lol! Writers have big imaginations and I always step into my characters shoes.
What advice would you give other writers?
I always say the three R’s even though one of the three R’s is a W. they are Read, Write and Research. Writers write. Writers read, and writers research. Who is your Audience? Find that out. Find your voice.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I first was published by a publishing company but they didn’t treat me well. So I started publishing myself.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think self publishing is going to become main stream. You have more creative control.
What genres do you write?: Children’s
What formats are your books in?: eBook, Print, Both eBook and Print
