About Rich Linville:
For over 40 years, I have enjoyed teaching all subjects in elementary, middle school, high school and college. Currently I am retired. I tutor all ages and write children's books: ebooks, audiobooks, hard cover, and paperback books. I have custom-written books for adults and children. I have received awards for Teacher of the Year, for Innovations in Education and Technology plus a Lifetime Achievements Award in Education. I enjoy researching topics and writing books as well as writing books to your specifications.
What inspires you to write?
After enjoying teaching all grade levels for 48 years, I retired in 2016 and asked my grandchildren what kind of books they liked to read.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
My favorite author is Charles Lutwidge Dodgson aka Lewis Carroll. I have reread his books many times and discover new ideas with each reading.
Tell us about your writing process.
I use PowerPoint to organize my illustrations and writing. I start with my notes and add appropriate illustrations. Next, I edit and re-edit and re-edit. Then, I save as a PDF. Finally, I use Kindle Kids' Book Creator software to create the ebook for publishing on Amazon and use the PDF for publishing the print book.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
When I'm writing, my fiction character become real to me and in my mind's eye. I talk and listen to my characters.
What advice would you give other writers?
To be a children's book writer, read many different children's books to children around you or with permission from teachers and administrators read in classrooms at schools. The main reason you write children's books is to entertain and educate children.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I decided to self-publish with Kindle Desktop Publishing. At their site, they have helpful tutorials as well as an email address to ask questions.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Some children will read ebooks. However, many of the children I know would rather have a hard cover or paperback book to hold and read.
What genres do you write?: All Genres
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print, Audiobook
