About Karen DuBose:
Karen grew up outside of Chicago with her mom, dad and two older brothers. Being the only girl and the baby was hard when your brothers thought it was a good idea to make her the guinea pig. They both were in wrestling and they used her to learn new moves. Fun for them not so much for her. Family means everything to her and she wouldn’t have changed a thing.
She traveled a lot and has finally settled down in a small town in East Tennessee in the mountains. Something about the mountains called to her and still does.
She loves to make her own swag and other gifts. She also loves anything to do with the outdoors.
Her favorite snack is gummy worms and bears. Her favorite drink is a white monster. She says she is a monster before she has one.
Her family is everything to her and they support her 100% with her dream to become a well-known author. She is taking it one step at a time and one book at a time.
What inspires you to write?
My dreams. The fantasy world my dreams took me into was amazing and I wanted to share it with the world.
Tell us about your writing process.
I'm a seat of the pants writer. I let my worlds come together as I write. My characters write themselves as well. They will reveal themselves as I write about them.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I do listen, talk and argue with my characters. Sometimes they become to much until I write what they want me to write then and there.
What advice would you give other writers?
There will always be someone that doesn't like your story. Don't let it discourage you. Always write from the heart. Your readers will know that you are. Listen to your readers. They will give you good advice.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I didn't know what I was doing when I started writing. I had no clue where to even start with getting my book published.
A good friend of mine told me about publishers. I gave it a shot. I mean they should know what they are doing right?
Not some much in my case. My first Publisher went belly up. The Publisher I'm with now Kingston Publishing are great to work with. I think I found my home.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I hope it thrives and builds. There are so many great authors out there and I hope more people will turn to books and less television.
