About Jutta Kopp:
Jutta Kopp is an indie author and photoshop tinkerer. She loves to create her own book covers and artwork related to her books. She also creates her own music. Born to a Korean mother and a German father she is bilingual and fluent in English and German. She also speaks Korean and Japanese and a little French. Besides being an author she works as a health advisor and instructor for horseback riding and hippotherapy. Of course, horses are still her passion but she is also well versed in martial arts and just loves anything that has to do with the paranormal.
What inspires you to write?
Emotion, imagination, dreams, and fantasies basically life itself! When I make drawings and a certain character catches my attention. When I throw together a new song and the melody just has that certain something. Those things spark ideas for my stories. Just try it yourself! For example, did you have a particularly wonderful experience today or a strong emotion(doesn´t have to be positive)? Concentrate on that and find a quiet place. Now think about how to weave a story around it. It can be about anything you like. Do you love the paranormal, wizards, elves? Go on, think or rather dream about how you can merge both of these things. Play a little mind TV. And don´t push it. Sometimes I go to bed with an idea and in the morning I wake up and knew exactly what to write.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
I just love the books written by J.R.R Tolkien.
Tell us about your writing process.
Well, usually I prepare a rough sketch of the story I want beforehand in my mind and then when I sit down to write I finetune it along the way. But I also always carry my mobile, who doesn´t? I have another reason to keep it close. Because when I get an idea during the day I have something ready to write it down for later. If the raw story is done I start with the research. You want to write about vampires get yourself acquainted with them. I love to search through the folklore of another country for inspiration and ideas! Do you want to write a criminal story do your homework and research on the process of investigation and so on? After I got all my facts right I start reading through the story and check if everything is as it should be. In short, does everything make sense? Are my characters consistent? Then, of course, don´t forget your English and grammar. Another read through and so on…
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Listen or talk? I play a movie in my mind with myself as the lead actor. ^^
What advice would you give other writers?
Sounds cliché I know, but never be afraid to chase after your dreams and phantasies, no matter how old you are. As a normal person life doesn´t give you a break. Never give up, fight your way trough. I can´t tell you how often I wanted to take my story and burn it. Even now that it´s published it doesn´t mean anything if you can´t get people's attention. But even if it´s not easy doesn´t mean it´s not worth it. So just stay with it cry, laugh and get yourself into the spiral of self-doubt but most important prevail, no matter what!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
Research, research, and research.I don´t know how long I was sitting and reading all the info the internet could offer. But of course, money is a huge factor as well. I simply could not afford anything else than to self publish.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
It definitively will change. It already did as a matter of fact. As technology progresses so does everything else. But there is one thing that is clear. There will always be books (electronic or on paper) and people who want to read them.
