About Celina Thompson:
Celina Thompson is basically a vampire. She is a disabled author with multiple invisible illnesses that cause sunlight to be painful, require blood transfusions, and even make garlic off limits. This inspired her debut novel, Sanctuary (a #1 Amazon Bestseller in Erotic Horror). Her passion for raising awareness for disabilities and healthcare continues with her new novel, La Mamácita Mafiosa. Before discovering her medical conditions, she worked in technical theatre and continues to have a deep appreciation for the arts. She loves immersing herself in telling a powerful story and transporting people to another world. Celina is a member of the Horror Writers Association (HWA), Romance Writers of America (RWA), and Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers (RMFW). Currently, she is the Event Coordinator for the Colorado Chapter of HWA and serves on the Board of Directors for RMFW as the Chair of the Colorado Gold Writers Conference.
What inspires you to write?
I’ve battled with life-threatening medical conditions for over a decade. Writing is my way of coping. I've been blessed to meet people who my stories have helped them get through their own dark times, and that means the world to me.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
The list is so long I couldn't possibly list them all, but some of them are:
Caroline Kepnes
Sylvia Moreno-Garcia
Gillian Flynn
Mariah Ankenman
Bernadette Marie
Cynthia Pelayo
V. Castro
Angela Sylvaine
Charlaine Harris
Grady Hendrix
Gabino Iglesias
Tell us about your writing process.
I use a method I've lovingly deemed popcorn writing. I write whatever scene my brain wants to hyperfixate on and then piece them together like a puzzle. It's a chaotic mix of both plotting and pantsing.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
My characters often decide what they want to do. It's like I'm watching the story in my head and just transcribing what's going on.
What advice would you give other writers?
Don't give up. Perfection doesn't exist but practice gets you closer.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I decided to self-publish my most recent novel because it has political undertones. Traditional publishing takes years and by that point it might be ton late to get this message out.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
The industry is becoming much more collaborative. Hybrid authors are becoming more common and are better received. This is fostering an environment that is more conducive to amplifying diverse voices and making readers feel seen.
What genres do you write?: Dark Romance — part horror and part smut
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print
