Delusional Madness by Kimberly Taylor
She was never supposed to end up here. Not behind the cold walls of an asylum. Not labeled insane.
In 1891 Ohio, Cassie is committed to a lunatic asylum against her will. She isn’t mad—but in a world where women’s pain is dismissed and their voices silenced, being misunderstood can be a life sentence. As she struggles to maintain her sanity, Cassie begins to unravel a far more disturbing truth: the true madness lies not within the patients, but in the system itself.
Inside the asylum’s crumbling walls, she meets women who’ve been forgotten by the outside world—each with their own story of sorrow, strength, and survival. Through them, Cassie finds both clarity and courage. But as secrets surface and the line between reality and delusion begins to blur, she realizes that survival isn’t just about escaping—it’s about being believed.
Delusional Madness is a haunting blend of historical fiction and psychological drama, inspired by the real-life horrors of 19th-century asylums. Gritty, raw, and emotionally resonant, it’s a powerful tribute to the women the world tried to forget.
Excerpt from the Book
The door slammed shut behind her with a force that rattled the bones in her chest. Cassie stood frozen, her arms wrapped tightly around herself as the echo faded into silence. This place was not what she imagined. It was colder. Dimmer. Louder inside, yet somehow quieter in the ways that mattered.
She tried to speak. To explain. But no one was listening.
The nurse scribbled something in a book without looking up. Another woman was crying down the hall—softly, rhythmically, like a metronome of despair. The stench of urine and disinfectant hung in the air like punishment.
Cassie reached for the locket at her throat, but it was gone.
Her voice trembled. “Please, there’s been a mistake—”
The nurse finally glanced up, her expression unreadable. “They all say that at first.”
