Behind the barrier field, life is a predicable kind of drudgery—three meals a day, hard work, and never quite enough, but also never going without. And honestly, that’s all Emery ever asked from life.
But when her beloved brother, Whyle, falls victim to a strange and deadly disease, Emery risks everything to save him, illegally crossing the Wall of Fire in search of the medicine that will save his life—medicine reserved for the elite of society.
Soon she unexpectedly runs into Eason, a boy she’s loved forever and never dreamed she’d see again after he left two years ago. Suddenly, everything she thought she knew is thrown into question. Finding the right answers won’t be easy, and trusting the wrong person could mean the difference between life and death — not only for her brother, but for everyone Emery has ever known.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I've always been fascinated by dystopian stories. I've long said that I read dystopias, and now I write dystopias, in hopes that I'll never have to live in a dystopia.
The entire Wall of Fire series was written just prior to the 2020 pandemic lockdowns, so it was in no way inspired by the actual events, but I feel very strongly that it's a view into a world that's never been more vital to consider than it is now.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
None of my characters are directly inspired by real people, but I try to consider their circumstances and form their personality as actions as realistic reactions to those circumstances (realizing that some people choose to respond well, while other choose a more selfish or dark path). Then I give each of them at least one or two defining characteristics that further show their character. It could be a prop, a catch-phrase, or a mannerism. The result of all this work is highly unique, differentiated, and relatable characters.
