It all started out as an innocent family holiday to South Sudan, the land of my ancestry. Being reluctantly dragged along by my father in hopes of that his kids get in touch with their roots, we soon found ourselves trapped in an unfamiliar land, trying to escape the political unrest as two powerful leaders fought for the right to rule this land. Juba, South Sudan, December 2013.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
My friend had told me about his trip to South Sudan and I found the experience fascinating.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
I wanted to bring a sense of humor to a book that portrays the dark sides of the civil war that is currently taking place in South Sudan.
It all started on 13th of December, just after we had arrived in Juba, the capital of South Sudan. It was a beautiful sunny day. The plane was soaring in the sky like an eagle and I caught my first glimpse of the world’s newest country, the place of my ancestry. The skies were clear and blue; the ground was a rusty red color with trees scattered here and there but mostly accumulated by the Nile River.
