The best day to be Best Dog is Valentine’s Day.
Like all dogs, Elliott understands about love, and he’s already helped rescue Paul and Adriana’s romance, but it seems that adman Jamie can only see the dollars. He has a devious secret plan, but first he’s got to turn Elliott’s comeback TV commercial into a big success in his on-screen wedding role as Best Dog. He’s cunningly scheduled it to hit the airwaves on Valentine’s Day. Then Jamie schemes to turn the real wedding into a televised moneymaking event, with Elliott as Best Dog at Paul and Adriana’s wedding. It’s not going to be easy though. Paul and Adriana, the other half of Elliott’s two Time Share families, object to Jamie’s interference in their wedding plans.
Jamie schemes to fix it with everybody, not just the bridge and groom. First, he’s got to convince Adriana’s traditional Italian parents, and the old family priest, to approve of Elliott as Best Dog. But that’s only the start, and will Paul and Adriana’s romance survive all the drama that follows…

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
A Londoner by birth, I came with my parents to live in Australia. That was in the Seventies. Almost immediately I was adopted by a stray dog, my first ever canine companion.
Dogs have been a big part of my life ever since. I'm convinced that they have a sense of humour, and are sometimes amazed and amused by the things we humans get up to. I've tried to capture that amusement and bemusement in my Mutt to Megastar series. Elliott may be a fictional character, but to me he's a real dog.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Today, Jamie and me zoom off to meet Noot. In the car, Jamie explains to me that what they’re going to be talking about is me being Best Dog at Paul and Adriana’s actual wedding! The only problem is, Noot doesn’t know about it yet.
Yipes, I’m thinking… neither do Paul and Andriana!
Sometimes it’s hard to get over what a conniving scum-bag Jamie really is!
Noot’s at a table in the garden at the “Doggies Who Lunch” Café. He’s having one of their posh coffees.
Me, I’ll be having my usual.
The water they have here is great. As it’s the only thing we drink, you’ve probably noticed that we dogs are pretty picky about our water. I figure the owner of this café must have worked that out too.
‘How’s the knee, Jamie?’ the American asks.
‘Good as gold now, Noot. Good as gold.’
Noot is a really tall man. After shaking hands with Jamie, he reaches down and gives me a big solid pat with his big hand.
‘This is my first dog restaurant, Elliott.’ he tells me, adding, ‘Ah cain’t wait to try out the food, buddy.’
‘How are things?’ asks Jamie.
Noot shakes his head with awe.
‘You and Elliott did it again, Jamie,’ he tells him, ‘Everyone at the Company thinks the new Biffo ad is fantastic,’
‘The focus group testing we did last night ranked it above Elliott’s pirate spot,’ Noot tells him.
‘We’re really smokin’, man! he says. ‘When I spoke to Joe, he said that if it’s that good they might even run it in the States, but what really impressed Joe was your idea of launching the ad on Valentine’s Day. And the real sweetener was when I told him that the TV channel we advertise on will be running a real tearjerker of a “lost dog” movie that night. Y’know the kinda thing, I said to him… the dog and the girl are reunited at the end. Tears all round. And right in the middle of that, in every commercial break, there’ll be Elliott saving the day as Best Dog in our TV wedding. Jamie, I’m tellin’ you, he was jumping for joy. I mean, literally. I could hear him stompin’ and hollering and whooping down the line’
‘Wow! D’you hear that, Elliott?’ says Jamie giving me a pat of his own.
But then suddenly Noot gets sneaky. He leans in close to tell Jamie he’s also heard a whisper about the TV Special that Winsome did about the “Bring Back Elliott” campaign. His source had said it could even be up for an award!
‘Watch this space,’ he tells Jamie with a grin.
And that’s the exact moment Jamie picks to sound out Noot about his Best Dog idea for Paul and Adriana’s wedding!
You have to hand it to Jamie. He’s got a great sense of timing for this stuff.
‘You know, if Elliott gets the Best Dog gig, I’d love to get Winsome to cover the event, Noot,’ he raves. As Noot nods, Jamie adds,
‘And we could even try to get a big magazine spread as well. It would all tie in so beautifully with the “Circus Wedding” commercial.’
Is it me, I’m wondering, or are Jamie’s schemes getting a tad icky?
After all, it is their wedding! I thought that was supposed to be the biggest day in human beings’ lives. And now Jamie wants to turn it into a media stunt!
