What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I wanted to show both a man's and woman's struggle to find love and create a man who also happened to be writing his own romance story.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
I wanted the woman to be someone spunky and full of hope, despite her painful divorce and a man who would find a woman who was interested in him, not his fame or fortune.
Two years ago, when Rick announced he was leaving her for a woman he’d met on their anniversary trip that year, she gave up. She stopped eating. Stopped watching movies. Slept sporadically. Even her dreams had stopped. Everything good, everything she’d ever enjoyed, all came to a halt. She thought she’d never recover.
But then the months passed and she began to find her way out of the pain. Lana, her best friend since grade school, and Brandon, Shelly’s brother, reminded her that it was Rick’s betrayal, not hers, that he carried the fault, that she was free and he had no power over her.
And every day since Rick had left, Shelly reminded herself that God loved her and knew the desires of her heart, that she would find someone who truly treasured her and would be faithful to her.
Stuffing the pizza box into the fridge, Shelly shut the door and paused as her eye caught on a small metal box sticking out from one of the higher cabinets. She pulled it down and began to sort through the miscellaneous items—sticky pads, ballpoint pens, envelopes, photos from high school, and at the bottom, the magnets. There was one from Paris, another from Hawaii, one from Mexico. . .all the places she and Rick had traveled.
She scooped them into her palm and shook her head at them. The marriage had been just a lie. He’d been in love with Jessica for much longer than he’d claimed. She wasn’t just a random stranger he met on their third anniversary. They met before he even proposed to Shelly, and their affair started before he even declared his vows to Shelly. As one last heart punch, he’d told her the whole truth as he packed his bags.
