What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
My grandpa was an Italian immigrant and did not speak much about his past. This story came to me as an alternate way to tell my family story (it is mostly fictional but based in some truth) and honor him. Much like my main character, he was my hero.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Since this was my first novel, I used a lot of my own experiences for my main character, Rachel, and some of my husband for her boyfriend, Brian. Other characters are loosely based on people in my life, blended with fiction. I like to think of all of the influences as jumping off points because all of the characters evolved into their own people through the course of writing and editing THE DIFFERENCE.
