What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I thought that Joseph (New Testament) was wrongfully treated almost as an afterthought by many, but he's really one of the most inspiring characters in the Bible.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
The primary characters are form the Bible, but I did have to come up with individuals for the supporting roles.
“Joseph!” Mary shouted anxiously.
Squinting in the rain, her husband turned to look at her, then followed her gaze back to the edge of the riverbed. His eyes widened as he caught sight of the soldiers, who were now charging into the muddy channel after them.
Not wasting a moment, Joseph scooped Mary up in his arms and began running with her. (Or rather, ran as best he could considering the rain, mud, and treacherous ground conditions.) For a moment, he had attempted to maintain his hold on the donkey’s reins, but quickly abandoned that effort – not because the beast was slowing him down but because the donkey, amazingly, was moving in the proper direction of its own accord.
Unsurprisingly, Joseph found his every step hindered by the mud. The suction of the muck was like a living thing, clawing desperately at his foot with every stride in an effort to make him stay in place, and only releasing him reluctantly with an audible plop as he continued moving forward. However, although his forward progress was understandably sluggish, it was undoubtedly faster than Mary could have moved on her own.
Risking a glance over his shoulder, he saw that – although also hampered by the mud – the soldiers were gaining on them. More importantly, comparing the forward progress of the legionaries to their own, it was clear that he and Mary would never make it to the other side of the riverbed before their pursuers caught them.
