From an award-winning author comes a novel about a 528-pound recluse. Meet Mona Jamborski, who hasn’t left her home in years and is slowly eating herself to death, with one foot in her past memories and another foot in her grave. Mona sees no future for herself until one day, someone knocks on her door and unwittingly leads her into a life-changing decision. Take a Load Off, Mona Jamborski is a book filled with the wonders and heartbreaks of human relationships.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
As much as our society gawks at morbidly obese people on reality television, I have not seen fiction devoted to this marginalized sub-sector of our society. I wanted to plumb the depths of such a person, within the setting of a novel, to make it accessible for readers to really feel what it might be like to fill those clothes and stumble through life in those shoes.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
I invented my main character, though I gave her autobiographical facets to keep her similar to me, and rather, to keep me true to her.
