What inspired you to write your book?
There is a great need to help those wishing to become US Citizens whose first language is not English. There are many study guides available but they are in English only. With my study guides, the applicant can study the sample questions and answers in English and their native language for clarification. In addition, I do what no other study guide does, I supply the names of the representatives for Congress, Senate and Governors. All other guides tell the applicant to “Check other sources.” For someone with limited access to reference material, my study guide is helpful in identifying these government officials.

How do you see writing a a craft book or tutorial as different from writing other genres of books?
When writing my novels and short stories, I relied on my imagination and life experiences to craft my stories. Once the novels were done, the only thing left was the marketing. My Study Guides (in 8 languages) required extensive research and formatting. I also have to update the guides on a regular basis since Congressmen, Senators and Governors change with each election cycle and sometimes due to resignation.

Advice to someone that is thinking about or currently working on a craft book or tutorial
Do your research. Think of something that makes your book unique. Nobody wants a “me-too” book. Make sure you explain the steps thoroughly. Avoid acronyms and jargon that may confuse your readers.

How did you decide how to publish your book and where is it published through:
It was through extensive research and a year long process that started at Smashwords and eventually to CreateSpace.
