14 short stories in the genre of speculative fiction. The first 5 involve some squirrels, some puppies, a young kitty cat, a rabbit, and a young prince, all of whom will be doing some strange things. After that, the stories get a little darker with cybernetic hunters, serial killers, and a painter in the corporate prison industry. After that is the Black Section, which contains 3 stories from my “Ruins of the Fall” universe, where the world has been conquered by a Black civil rights leader.
Targeted Age Group:
18 and up
Writing in my genre is different from others in that speculative fiction requires that the author fabricate new technology and environments, in addition to character situations. In speculative fiction, you usually have to build your settings from the ground up. You don’t just use what’s around you.
What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
The same advice that was given to me before I started writing books: get a real job.
Russell A. Mebane is an Army brat, who was born in Womack Army Hospital, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He has lived on both coasts of the U.S., but has spent most of his life in the region of the U.S. known as “The South”. Thus if you ask the author where he is from, he will normally respond with either “everywhere” or “the South”. In his spare, he likes to surf the internet, play video games, and read the Bible.
A cynical view of the natural world and human society coupled with the sadistic pleasure I derive from killing and torturing my characters. I also like stories that have a moral to them as well.
