What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I've loved vampires since I was a child. Every fanged horror movie and beloved book has left an impression. The Sinners and Saints series is my love note to the creepier, more mysterious side of the genre. Not all is revealed right away. This series is a slow-burn, character-driven, moody ride with heart and plenty of vicious teeth.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
The heroine, Alice, is a smart yet damaged and vulnerable character. Her OCD and anxiety were born from personal ties. However, Alice's life explodes in a way that is equal parts her own doing as well as from outside forces. I think a form of Alice lives in all of us. She's the part of us that fears the coming darkness. The part that rattles our rib cage with anxiety. The voice in our heads whispering, "Run." But she's also that tiny component -that piece of steel reserve- that will never break. How did I come up with her character? She's always been there, somewhere, deep down inside.
