When I clicked the button on Createspace that made my novel go live, I changed my life. I self published my chick lit novel She Likes It Rough. Now, anyone can buy my book. I can buy my book! I already had the vibrant, substantial proof in my hand. I wrote a book! I created the book! I published the book! I am holding my BOOK in my HAND!!!!! AND ANYONE CAN BUY IT!!!!! I am an author.
Gone are the desultory writing habits slogging through my life and constantly reminding me what I am not doing and have not done. Such craven negligence is but a sad memory. Now, I wake up everyday eager to get started building my life as AN AUTHOR. The author GVR Corcillo. I do not fret over things I should have been doing for years, such as building up a social network or writing the ten other books in my head. No time for regrets. I start from here and go.
Are you an emerging writer? Someone battling the demons that keep you from becoming what you always wanted to be? Just do it. I take a little time every day to sit and work. To write. Because that’s what a writer does.
GVR Corcillo’s Ivy League education, white-trash sensibility, and pop culture savvy come together rather eclectically in her romantic comedies. She writes about strong female characters who try not to trip as they valiantly march to their own bongo beat.
Corcillo hit the New York Times Best Sellers List with her short story, “Jane Austen Meets the New York Giants,” in the Marlo Thomas anthology The Right Words at the Right Time: Volume 2. Her short story “All Summer on a Date” was chosen as the lead story in the 2012 anthology Romancing the Pages. She Likes It Rough is her debut novel soon to be followed by Queen of the Universe.
Originally from Scranton, PA, she lives with her husband Ron Corcillo in North Hollywood, CA, where she delves into all things Los Angeles: she’s co-hosted a syndicated radio show, acted in an award-winning short film, written a screenplay for Roger Corman’s Concorde Pictures, picketed during the 2007 Hollywood writers strike, and taught high school in Watts and South Central. And while she loves her life on the west coast, she’s still a die-hard New York Giants fan. What Inspired You to Write Your Book?

Viggo Mortensen was in it, so I stopped to watch for a bit. Viggo plays an outdoor extremist who is also a businessman. That sparked the idea for my hero Jack, a an adrenaline junkie who designs gear for outdoor sporting adventures. The rest of the story evolved from there. The inspiration for Lisa? Well, I have this, uh, friend, yeah, a friend, and she’s afraid of so many things. Heights, big animals, loud noises, wearing the wrong thing, what her mother thinks of her…
