Rescue in the Wild is a Smoky Mountain Stick-boy adventure book. School’s out for the summer and eleven-year-old Evan Mace is elated. Along with his best friend, Mica Habber, Evan is ready to spend the summer rock-hopping, roaming the woods, and splashing in Hickory Creek. Evan’s Border collie, Boone, will join in the fun. And, though at first Evan and Mica are repulsed by the idea, a new girl resident of the Hickory Creek Cove community, Charu Roundtree, is about to turn the twosome into a threesome. Of course, all three will have to deal with the community bully—Bruce, “the Moose,” Meckel—who is determined to take the fun out of their summer. Evan’s father, Jonathan Mace is a Ranger in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. In fact, the Mace land is only separated from the Park by Hickory Creek. Though Evan believes himself too grown-up to believe in magic, he is forced to change his opinion when he finds an unusual stick that obeys his commands. THE STICK eventually assists in the search for Molly, a little girl who becomes lost in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Get ready; adventure ahead!

Author Bio:
I am a retired teacher who is now writing chapter books for ages 8-12.
My husband David and I were both born and raised in rural areas of Indiana. We have now lived in Tennessee, near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, for 34 years. I was an elementary school teacher for 31 years and David was a college professor. Writing and illustrating are lifetime dreams of ours.
My books are set in and around the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. In RESCUE IN THE WILD the three main characters, eleven-year-olds, find a child who is lost in the GSMNP. They have the assistance of a magic stick and a dog named Boone. In my second book, THIEF IN THE PARK, the kids confront a clouter who is breaking into cars at trailheads.
You are guaranteed to find adventure, mystery, friendship, family, humor, and a bit of magic!
My husband David illustrated my books with excellent pictures that portray the story.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Two factors inspired me to write RESCUE IN THE WILD.
(1) I wanted to add to the number of good books for young readers ages 8-12–an action/adventure book that values friendship, family, and outdoor activities. As a elementary classroom teacher, I loved seeing my students devour good books; in the process, expanding their comprehension and vocabulary in the natural process of following the story.
(2) My husband and I live near the Great Smoky Mountains Naitonal Park. We love visiting the park, camping out, and hiking the trails. I wanted to write an adventure book that would invite young readers to the mountains and all its marvelous activites.
