Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. – Ephesians 5:8
The summer has passed. The nights are getting colder. The nights are getting longer. Dare not journey to the northern moors where the birds and creatures will not go, lest you too be compelled to make your Payment.
Deep within the forgotten and misty moorlands of Yorkshire, the secluded village of Middleton Kirby unknowingly plays host to a dark secret. Malevolent, malignant and patient, it waits as if dormant for the next generation of an ancient family to make their Payment. When the Esquire of Middleton Kirby returns home to his manor and life of near isolation after a period of time away he finds he is not as abandoned as he always thought.
As much as he may try to resist, he realises he cannot keep from making his Payment forever.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
This was originally a short story competition entry, in the horror genre, that I later decided to evolve into a full length novel.
I always enjoyed the more traditional style of horror stories: the haunted mansions, spooky goings-on etc. I thought this was a great opportunity to have a crack at it myself!
It didn't win the competition, but the comments received were very, very encouraging and having already decided I wanted to go forward with more writing.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
The main character was – depressingly when one thinks about it – based off feelings of being alone or isolated, when life sometimes presented itself that way.
