This bestselling novel reached #1 in five Amazon book categories. Full of suspense, the high-drama story moves from surviving childhood catastrophes to rebuilding identity, then to indulging passion and freedom. It gets inside the lives of four very different but equally driven characters (two men and two women) caught up in a series of life-and-death struggles as each seeks to discover sanity and love — and understand what these mean.
The unfolding drama leads readers to intimate truths the author never simply ‘hands out’ (as in pop fiction). Instead, as old secrets are prised open the reader ‘lives through’ events in real time, as they are revealed. So, what’s coming next is impossible to predict as a series of gigantic surprises hikes tension sky-high in the second half of the book. Then, finally, comes a crescendo of enormous proportions that resolves the fate of the four main characters, each of whom the reader by this point has come to know in body, heart and spirit.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
A real event — meeting a strange but intriguing woman who waited for train after train, day after day, in a tiny station, a train that might never arrive. Her 'story' is astounding; it had to be told.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
The two main character suggested themselves as they come from real life. With that 'connection' in place it was a case of surrounding these characters with social supports, other people who would naturally be related by blood or circumstance. This is 'building the cast', an exercise all novelists go through. The support characters need to be as compelling as the main character, even though they seem less important in the story; otherwise the story remains shallow and unauthentic.
Dear Reader . . .
One late-summer evening a long time ago,
in a little picturesque train station,
I noticed a graceful young woman sitting alone;
she looked to be waiting for someone.
Over the next week I re-visited the station on
five occasions to photograph it in different light.
The woman was there every time.
On the day I was leaving, with no one else around,
our eyes engaged,
a moment of silent conversation;
she smiled, a smile I’d never seen before,
and she seemed about to tell me something.
Then her head dropped, she turned,
moved rapidly away from me.
The train whistle blew.
Would I ever see her again,
ever know why she was there, or who she longed for?
This woman, that encounter, inspired this novel.
I couldn’t make her the main character,
she was too much of a mystery for that.
So I wrote a bigger story around a driven man,
and married the two.
I think you’ll be glad you read it.
