This the true story of a son taking care of his dying father, a man he didn’t know very well, or even liked, who was diagnosed with brain cancer. This is a story of bankruptcy and breakups; of drug abuse and depression; of fights, both physical and verbal; and numerous doctors, lawyers, shrinks, police, and social workers. This is a story of confronting death and family healing. This is a story of inspiration, overcoming, and life lessons. This is my story as honest as it comes, from leaving my entire life behind in Florida to come home to giant mess in Cleveland that I thought I could clean up easily. How wrong I was. It’s part of life, taking care of your parents-I just got there first.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I was inspired to write this book to tell my story. To get the emotions all the way out of me. To help others if they are faced with the same circumstances. I wrote to inspire people to overcome challenges and be thankful for what they have. I just hope it will reach people and they can get something out of it.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
It was never clear to me why my parents had split up. It’s tough being caught in the middle of it. You hear both sides; straight talking shit. I was always trying so hard for his approval. I rarely saw him during any given year, maybe a handful of times. I felt so nervous around him. I guess I felt I had to prove myself of being worthy to be his son, of being loved. On the other hand his parents took us every Wednesday after school. They were consistent and that’s what kids need in their lives.
Now he was dying and time was of the essence. All I wanted was another chance to save our family but it seemed time was not on my side. I decided to invite him to an Indians game. We could at least talk some ball without fear of eggshells. When I hung up I wasn’t sure how to feel. I was sad and angry. I shed some tears as I told my mom.
