Not yours, Truly is a contemporary collection of women’s short stories. Through uncensored and haunting prose, the reader follows ten different women on their journey to defeat the inner and outer demons in their lives. While some women emerge triumphant, some women do not. Not yours, Truly explores issues surrounding abuse, sexism, and mental health.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I am constantly inspired by those around me, especially the women in my life. I wanted to give a voice to the women that may not be able to speak due to their circumstances. Through my stories, I hope that the readers will gain a better understanding of the issues explored—abuse, sexism, and mental health.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
All my characters are fictional, but they are all very loosely based on myself, my family, my friends, and acquaintances. Some characters are even based on random people I see on public transit! I often make up stories about strangers I see and I transcribe these stories into actual words which is what you will find in my book.
You feel it. You feel how dark it is. It's sticky and sandpapery at the same time. Its skin hurts to the touch. Is it possible to defeat the thing without touching it? You imagine the skin of your hand will blister and bubble upon encountering the thing's skin, eventually disintegrating down to bone in less than a few seconds. You shove both your hands, in fists, deep
into your pockets.
What if the thing follows you home, decides not to kill you, and lives there instead? It would probably damage all your furniture and knock over everything. Set fire to the walls, even. Melt the toilet with one touch. There is no way you can let this thing into your house. There is one more block until you reach home. One more block to deal with the thing behind you.
Half a block.
In a few more steps, it will be a third of the block. It's now or never.
You take a deep breath, ready to fight the ugly, tentacled, and hairy thing and tell it to fuck off.
Instead, you find yourself facing your best friend. This is where she takes a right to go to her street and goes home as usual. You can't believe you were about to tell her to fuck off.
"Good night," she says to you, donning her sweet smile that you've seen a billion times. You watch her as she takes a step back. She had the same sweet smile after she finished crying in grade six. She looked pleasant—serene even. You love her so much.
Good night, you say back to her, and give her a hug. You feel cold all over. It's not because of the creature. You didn't even touch it. You watch your best friend leave. The thing is no longer unseen. You can see it and it's eating her face. It's all over her face; the tentacles are everywhere and acid drips from its hair. It goes home with her.
