What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I wanted to write a detective story about a guy who isn't a superman and doesn't have all the answers. Luckily he has an attractive sidekick to help him out. While I try to deal with the relationships by using humor, I also tried to point out that everyone has their demons and often there is a reason for it. The world could use a little more empathy, and Slater finds out just how important that is.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
The main characters in my book are totally fictitious, but their relationships are something we all have experienced. Most people have a first love that they can't let go of, and sometimes a new love is the only cure. Other than that, the minor characters are an amalgamation of many of the people I have met in my life.
I finally found them standing in waist deep in the icy water, clinging to each other as the waves smashed over them and tried to drag them back out into the Atlantic. They were screaming at the top of their lungs, shouting obscenities and singing, both crying like they'd never stop. Now Davey was gone and Angela was broken. I wasn't surprised.
