What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
When I think of the West I think cowboys, ranches, and barn dances. I’ve always been enamored by the brave men who headed West to start their lives in an unknown territory.
They took of their background, of their surroundings and those they met, and created a culture stronger than most. A culture of pick-up trucks, country music, and hard work.
I hope that this novel portrays this in every way.
Every woman, at one stage in her life, dreams of falling in love with a rope toting, gun swinging, hat wearing cowboy – at some time or other. May this novel make you relive that dream, and appreciate the cowboy you have chosen to spend your life with even more.
Even if he is a pen-pusher with the heart of a lion, like mine. Because at the end of the day having a ranch doesn’t make you a cowboy; being brave, loyal and hardworking, does.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Every character in this book resembles someone I've met or known for years. I think some characters are a compilation of both. I like to write characters that readers can relate to. Lisa is the fun-loving hairdresser with a penchant for bright colors, don't we all know someone like that? But deep down she protects her heart with her bubbly personality. As for Sam, he's the stoic tall dark and handsome guy that is a little shy. But once you scratch beneath the surface you'll be suprised how passionate a shy cowboy can be.
Sam’s throat suddenly went dry. So this was what he thought it was. It was almost a week since their first kiss and it hit him like a nail on the head that he was already in love. “We’ll see about that.” He knocked against the kitchen counter. “Don’t think this will last, though.”
He loved watching her brows rise with surprise whenever he flirted with her. “Sam!” A bright red flush colored her cheeks and Sam knew he wasn’t going to wait another second.
He stood and walked around the counter. He flicked off the stove and reached around her waist to untie the adorable apron she wore to protect her clothes. “I’m not waiting anymore, Lisa. I’ve waited for more than ten years –”
Lisa’s eyes widened. “What?”
“Yeah, you heard me,” Sam said a little gruffly. “I wanted you back in high school but you just wanted Burke. I’m done waiting, Lisa, it’s time for this to happen. If you want me to leave, you better speak up because once I drop this apron I’m not going anywhere.”
He watched her pupils dilate, her breath quicken, and her eyes darken with need. “I’m not saying anything…”
Sam reached for his Stetson, tugged it off and tossed it aside. He wouldn’t need it for the rest of the night. He had everything he needed in his arms.
He finally had Lisa Stokes
