Having experienced the benefits of meditation, this book was written out of my will to encourage others to bask in the benefits of the practice; even if they are new to the idea. This book will also serve as a guide for those seeking a tranquil state of mind, despite all the chaos and noise around them. After all, dedicating ten minutes out of your day to wellness is not a bad thing. For me in particular, I noticed that I was tired either due to physical, emotional, or mental stress. I also felt drawn away from the little things I enjoyed. However, after I got introduced to meditation, I could not begin to describe how rejuvenating the experience has been.
This book was partly inspired by an event that our volunteer team organized for the elderly, and we called it Respect Elderly Day. The day before the event, I was helping to move chairs and other heavy stuff. However, I was not used to exerting so much energy and I began feeling excruciating pains. On the day, after being on my feet for roughly two hours into the event, I could feel the tingling pain in my back from yesterday. I was almost at my wit’s end and the event was scheduled to last for eight hours, which meant another six hours of standing. After ensuring that everyone was served, I eventually snuck out to find a place to meditate until it was time to resume my duty. To my surprise, I felt so fresh and rejuvenated after meditating and I was able to carry out my duty properly.
Aside from its calming effect, meditation is a great way to connect with your soul and promote healthy living by reducing stress-related conditions. Most people find that they do not have the self-discipline to exercise regularly, and this is the main reason why they have not attained the level of wellness that they seek.
There are several forms of meditation such as tai chi and yoga, which involve a significant amount of movement that produces relative physiological effects when compared to simple mental exercises. Meditation can boost overall health in several ways and there is much to gain by adding it to your routine. With that said… Let’s get started, NAMASTE!
What is Meditation?
Meditation is an ancient practice that has been passed down over many centuries with several variations based on local customs, religion, and a host of other factors. Most of us allow emotions or feelings to determine a lot of our actions, and it gets worse when they begin to manifest themselves in our respective lives. Meditation can be seen as a mental state with no sort of interference from the mind or body that most of us have forgotten how to achieve. Although it can prove useful to set aside a time to continuously engage in a structured meditation method, there are several techniques that can be practiced within the context of one’s daily life. It doesn’t matter if they are alone, at work, or surrounded by family and friends.
One major component of meditation is the relief it provides. Nevertheless, all procedures for meditation require a certain degree of mental focus, hence causing the mind and soul to rest on one area of thought. For example, the Vipassana-style of meditation leads to Jhana; which is a state of optimum tranquility that is also a form of pleasure that lies beyond and above whatever we have experienced in a normal state of consciousness.
However, it must be made clear that meditation is not a religious or spiritual practice. It is far from that and you do not need to burn incense, chant various phrases, or dress a particular way. Many are of the assumption that it takes years to fully benefit from the practice of meditation, but this is certainly not the case. In fact, it has been noted that meditation can lead to amazing mental and physical health benefits with eight weeks of consistent practice. Most importantly, meditation is not against any religion, given that it serves to improve relaxation, focus, and awareness.
