What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I was working on another manuscript when, one day, the words “Littlethumb sneezed” popped into my head. I liked the sound of the two words together, so I wrote them down in my notebook to revisit when I was finished with the project I was already working on. But, those words kept nagging at me, and eventually I asked myself, “Okay, what happened when he sneezed?” As I continued to ask myself questions and find the answers, eventually what I wound up with was this unique character study about a child prodigy artist. I fell in love with the notion of bringing this character to life and making his story dynamic but also tragic. In the end, it winds up becoming an incredible tale of resilience and forgiveness, wrapped up in a satire about U.S. popular culture.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Well, Littlethumb popped into my head on his own, so to speak, though I did have to decide what or who a Littlethumb was. After that, everything else revolved around him. Family, mentor, foil, love interest. These were all necessary aspects to fully bring Littlethumb’s character to life.
