What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Here’s how I got the idea to write ‘Life’s Not Over Yet’.

I decided to take a break from work once my daughter was born. It was supposed to be a two or three-year break but somehow turned out to be more than that. I started thinking about my life, people I have met over the years, places I have been to and life’s many surprises.

There was one such person that I kept thinking about, a woman in her mid-sixties or early seventies hiking in Svalbard, Norway. I always wanted to see Northern Lights so we booked a flight to Svalbard. I did not get to see the Northern Lights as we went at the wrong time but the trip was worth it as Svalbard is a beautiful, quiet place. Once, while hiking, we stopped as we were tired and started taking pictures, when I saw her I could not believe that at that age she had more stamina than us considering we were half her age. We talked with her for a while before she continued her hike.

There was another time when we took a train ride from Oslo to Bergen in Norway. We met a group of elderly women who were going together on a trip. They were so active and full of life. I always thought, after a certain age you retire and stay at home as by that time your health is not at its best. But seeing these women changed my perception of life. Everything is in your hands, if you take care of your health, it will take care of your life.

Apart from thinking about my past, I was also struggling with what I wanted to do with my life. For as long as I can remember, my life would invariably change every five to six years, whether it was moving to a new place or a different job. My life kept changing and without realizing it, I had come to love it. Now my life was moving at a slow pace, not going anywhere as if the kind of life I wanted was over. My family suggested that I write a book to get my mind of off it. I was getting restless when I thought about those active women from Norway and the idea for ‘Life’s Not Over Yet’ came to me. Then in three weeks’ time I had written my first Romance Novella. My life has changed again, hopefully bringing with it, new adventures for the next five or six years, maybe more, we will just have to wait and see.

How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
This was my first Novella. I had been thinking about my life for quite some time. I used to be a very organised person who loved making five-year plans till my daughter was born. After that whatever I believed about life and how I could control it just went out the window. Every day was a new day with new responsibilities, new tasks to be completed and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to plan my life anymore. When I started writing about life and how unpredictable it is, the character of Trisha came to me. She helped me bring life into perspective and answered questions about how life is what we make of it.

“Do you mind if I come inside? It will take them some time to get ready,” said Dev while coming in and sitting on the bed.

“Well, you are already in,” Trisha said, closing the door.

“Sorry, I thought in the beginning we all were having fun and then by the time we came back you seemed distant,” said Dev.

Trisha sat down on the floor next to the bed and said, “It was a lot of fun. I am just tired. I guess there were just too many personal questions that I am not ready to talk about. It was mentally exhausting trying to deflect them.”

“Ok, how about I stay and cheer you up a bit,” said Dev sitting down on the floor in front of Trisha. Dev saw the expression of uncertainty on her face. “I promise I will not ask inappropriate questions even if you beg me too,” he said with a grin.

“Oh my God,” said Trisha loudly, hitting him with a pillow that was on the floor next to her.

“Made you smile, didn’t I. As it is life is uncertain so enjoy it while it lasts,” Dev said, throwing the pillow back.

“Ok, so tell me what happened in your life to make your sister want to set you up with someone?” Trisha asked.

“I will answer that question in a moment. Let’s make it interesting. We will play a game called 'Questions'. We both will ask each other ten questions. Make it five since it’s your first time. All questions have to be answered truthfully,” said Dev while opening his bag he had brought with him. He took out a bottle of Rose wine and two glasses.

“Why do I feel that you came here prepared,” said Trisha.

“Trish, remember this, I am…. always……. prepared. So are…. you…. readyyyyy,” said Dev giving her a glass of Rose wine.
“What if I don’t want to answer?” Trisha said taking the glass from Dev.

“Well, then I get to ask you another coz you are a beginner, so I will make an exception,” said Dev.

“Who starts first,” said Trisha.

“Go ahead,” said Dev.

Why did your sister set you up?” asked Trisha, drinking wine.
