Dancing-with-Horses-2

What inspired you to write your book?
I read every horse and animal book in my elementary school’s library (we didn’t have e-readers waaay back then.) Then I was given a horse and I was hooked. I oriented my life around riding, training and showing them. The moments of communication, those few rides where it all came together and the joy of touching a warm, furry horse made all the hard, hard, (did I say hard?) work worth it. I wanted to share the inspiration and entertain readers with the animals that inspired me. And writing novels is on the same level of hard work and joy in the results. I’m hooked, I love writing too.

About your Book:
Jane Mitchell rode her difficult, high strung horse, Windsong, for almost a year with one goal in mind, “Make the North American Junior Team”. Windsong was inconsistent in the show ring, sometimes making Jane fear for her life and sometimes performing so beautifully, even the judge wanted to cheer. When Jane edges into fourth place at the last qualifying show and is nominated to the team, she is elated. Until she meets the other three members of the team; Melinda Kratz has been her rival, beating Jane in the show ring for years. Melinda makes sure she rubs it in Jane’s face every time she wins. Alison McBride, a cool, sophisticated heiress who rides the most expensive horse money can buy. She is not a team player and sabotage is not beneath her. Then there is Shawn Delaney, easy on the eyes, charming and determined to win Jane away from her boyfriend, Cory. These teens are above all else, ruthless competitors. The best young talent in the nation rides in this championship competition,. Can Jane keep up with these kids; does she have what it takes?

How do you see writing a book in the Pet Genre as different from writing other genres of books?
People who love pets read animal books. They have felt a connection to their horse, dog, cat, potbellied pig or even snake. They will relate closely to the animal characters in a book and it will touch them more deeply than reading an action story about someone doing something they have never done before.

Advice to someone that is thinking about or currently working on a pet book
Keep your animal characters real. Pets touch us in so many special ways that if you exaggerate their intelligence, or create an unrealistic scene, your reader will not feel as close to the character as you would like.

How did you decide how to publish your book and where is it published through:
After sending out many queries to agents, I became impatient with the wait for their responses. I began to research self publishing and became enamored with having full control of my books. I chose the easiest to find, most popular sites because I figured those were the ones the readers were finding.

Author Bio:
I am new to writing novels, although I have written different things all of my life. I love creating characters and stories that inspire and touch people. I still train and show horses, so am gathering new material all the time. Horses never disappoint in that department. I enjoy writing as much as I enjoy writing and my days are full of both.
