He started off life in a small town close to Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in a home where the only time I ever heard the name of God was as a curse word. Thankfully, many relatives were praying for him and the Lord revealed Himself to the 18 year-old directionless young man.
From the radical transformation the young man went through, Jesus called the author into Missions which he was in for over 10 years. Having traveled to over twenty different Countries sharing the Gospel, this was an amazing learning time.
God then sent, after much pleading, the other half into his life 11 years ago. Now the couple are settled, married for 9 years, and have the sweetest little girl.
From Missions, to family life, now he feels called to write. All of us at Torah for Gentiles.com pray we can all grow in our understanding of Gods Word together. Feel free to contact the Author with any constructive criticisms, questions, or comments through www.torahforgentiles.webs.com
What inspires you to write?
Mostly I write because there is always something jangling around in my head and until I get out it clogs my brain. When you write down your thoughts you always it is always think wow, I thought that, or wow someone else thought that up, or wow that was a dumb thing to think.
Writing is an amazing canvass for the reality of the mind to become inspiration, action inducing, or just entertainment for someone.
Tell us about your writing process.
Writing for me is a very basic way for me to think out what is in my head.
Usually I have to write my thought down without any critique, just let the thoughts get onto the page. Then let some times pass, sometimes a month, then go back to the words written and revise them into a cohesive thought or story. After this then I continually rewrite until my I force myself to walk away from the manuscript or give it to someone else to critique.
Writing is really a craft, just having a good story is not enough, it has to be clear enough for everyone to understand.
This takes work. Writing is not something everybody can do because you need to have a little obsessive compulsion in you to really write clearly, unless of course you have a ton of money and can hire a talented editor to do the work for you:).
What advice would you give other writers?
I read from a very famous writer that writing is a lot of work. I took this to heart and realize that in everything you have to roll up your sleeves and work. Do not take shortcuts in anything. If you have to reread your manuscript because your editor wants you too again, then read it all do not skim. If you have to go to an interview, then be ready to answer the questions, research again your books sources, then review why you wrote it. If you have to market your book, research how, leave nothing to chance or for someone else. Hard work is a nonnegotiable for successful writers.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I did a lot of research. I talked to vanity Publishers, many different ones to get a sense of what they do. I joined groups on LinkedIn, Goodreads, and other Writing forums and asked questions about what to do.
I then looked at where my writing was, could I get an agent to promote this particular book. I tried to see where the book was in respect to the genre it was written in.
Its important to realize where your book is in the marketplace. This was my first book and I realized that it was a book, but not a masterpiece, I tried to treat it like a publisher would have.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I believe that Publishing, contrary to most people, is on a good footing. There will, of course, be big companies that will not make it because of their old school ways, but I think that the more Authors there are, the better it is for publishing. More people reading is never bad, and with all the people writing in the next ten years I believe there will be amazing books in the marketplace which will increase sales, not decrease them.
