About Sophia Conway:
I am an Irish writer, poet, and photographer residing on Vancouver Island, Canada with my husband and young son. My faith, motherhood, and experience as an immigrant to Canada heavily inspire my creative work. I enjoy combining my writing with poetry, visual art, film, painting, and music.
What inspires you to write?
Writing allows me to process life and I feel that I have something to share with the world.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
I love C.S. Lewis and Tolkien for fiction, and Susan Musgraves and Rupi Kaur for poetry.
Tell us about your writing process.
I write best early in the morning before the busyness of the day sweeps me away. There's nothing better for me than a fresh cup of coffee and a blank page in the stillness of the morning while everyone is still asleep.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
If the characters feel right, it's almost like they speak themselves. The dialogue flows easily and I try not to over-edit it.
What advice would you give other writers?
Be bold. Say what needs to be said. Nobody wants to reach the end of their lives with wasted opportunities and regrets. Don't leave the words to tomorrow.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
Amazon makes it so easy to publish so I took the opportunity to try it and have never looked back. I'm also experiencing the traditional publishing side of the industry currently and that has it's benefits too but it takes so much longer and you have to trust that the team you're working with is as passionate about your book as you are.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I don't know in which form stories will be told and shared in future, whether it be digital or physical, but I'm not sure it matters as much as ensuring that we continue to tell and share stories. It's a way of passing on knowledge, perspectives, and hope, and I don't think that's ever going to die out.
