What inspires you to write?
When I was eight I found out that I was good at writing. I did not have the courage to pursue the dream of being an author until I was grown-up. As a result, I’ve developed an intense love for authors and the authorship process. My desire is to leave this earth completely empty of all the books I have inside of me. Leaving a literary legacy is important to me.
Authorpreneurship is a fairly new concept to the book industry. It is my mission to make more authors aware of what it takes to position themselves for success. I’ve made it my life’s mission to share what I’ve learned with other authors and to celebrate them when they achieve their successes. What better way to do that than write a book about R.E.A.L. authorpreneurs. Showcasing who they are and their accomplishments, so that other authors can thrive in this industry.
Tell us about your writing process.
I am definitely an outliner. I like to storyboard my book before actually developing chapters. I start with the title; develop a book mission statement; develop chapter titles; define their content and then proceed to write the book.
What advice would you give other writers?
If it’s important enough for you to dream about it and rent space in your head, it’s important enough for you to write about it. It took me years to get the courage to show my work to anyone, nonetheless actually publish something. I admonish you not to take your final nap without leaving a literary legacy behind.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I prefer self-publishing because I am a control freak. I’ve tried both ways and self-publishing seems to be a better fit for me. I actually designed a quiz for authors to take to determine what is the best mode of publishing for them. I know it’s difficult with all the options out there to make that decision. I like to help authors, so that’s why I did that.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think book publishing is in the midst of a major metamorphosis. The trick is to stay abreast of what’s actually going on by aligning yourself with major thought leaders in the industry. Vet them, make sure their publishing philosophy is close to yours and your genre and remain teachable. In other words, grab somebody’s coattail and hang on.
