About R.L. Taylor:
R.L. Taylor is a Black Amercian award-winning travel and hospitality professional, business consultant, life guide, and children’s books author. R.L. is a Christian and a native New Yorker who finds joy in time spent with family, friends, and fur babies (dogs, by preference). While living twenty years abroad in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, where she raised her two children as a single parent, R.L. began pursuing her passion for writing based upon her real-life experiences with her son, Elijah, and daughter, Christa.
R.L. now resides in her hometown of New York, and when she is not traveling on business, she is writing up new stories that you and your children are sure to love!
What inspires you to write?
For the most part, my children inspire me to write. However, everyday experiences can spark inspiration too! I tend to write about the things that touch me in such a way that I am compelled to share it with the world.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
For children's book: Dr. Seuss, Maurice Sendak, and Matthew A. Cherry.
Tell us about your writing process.
Quiet please. I like to write in complete silence secluded away somewhere, by preference. All I need is inspiration and my trusty laptop, cellphone, and/or notebook. Basically, whatever I can use to document my thoughts and I'm good to go!
What advice would you give other writers?
Select a good editor and listen to their critiques. The things I wrestled with while writing are the very things that my editor picked up on and was able to help me fix prior to publication. An extra pair of eyes reviewing your work prior to publication is always good to have!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
Becoming a published children's book author has been a longstanding dream of mine. This said, with publishing my very first children’s book there would be no room for error. It was especially important to me to put my best effort (and investment) into my book publishing project. I selected a hybrid self-publishing option, which was recommended by a trusted friend. This way, instead of having to find freelance editors, marketers, website creators…on my own; I was able to pay a publishing house as a one stop shop for all of those services which gave me peace of mind throughout the publishing process.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think the future is bright and brimming with innovation and opportunity! Change is inevitable and with AI now disrupting the industry, traditional book publishers will have to find new ways to adapt, or risk losing their stronghold on the market.
What genres do you write?: Children's Books
What formats are your books in?: Print
